A 23-year-old man jumped onto the railway tracks from the platform of Fanling Station on the East Rail Line in Hong Kong’s New Territories on Monday.
At 8am, the man surnamed Pong, suddenly jumped from the platform and was hit by a train entering Fanling Station, news website HK01.com reported.
Pong’s body was trapped under the train. Paramedics and firemen arrived quickly, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police officers found his identity card, but no suicide note.
After inspecting surveillance camera footage, police believe Pong jumped onto the rail tracks by himself. Foul play is not suspected.
Pong, who graduated from university last year and worked in the logistics industry, was said to be under a great deal of pressure at work, Oriental Daily reported.
MTR service was halted for an hour and resumed operations at 9am.
