A 34-year-old Pakistani man was sentenced to nine years in jail by the High Court in Hong Kong on Friday for attempted rape. Qasir Jahanger, an asylum seeker who had been in Hong Kong for 12 years, had been accused of trying to rape a 59-year-old Vietnamese neighbor in a subdivided flat in Sham Shui Po, Kowloon, last year, the Oriental Daily reported.
Jahanger had denied the charge.
Judge D’Almada Remedios slammed Jahanger for using violence against the woman when he tried to rape her without using a condom, but failed due to the victim’s resistance.
After reviewing Jahanger’s psychological report, the judge found he had not shown any regret for his actions. The report added that he had a high sex drive and was a high risk to commit more offenses.
In determining the sentence, the court also considered the age of the victim, who was traumatized from the attack and suffering depression.
