An African man has been charged in Dubai with impersonating a police officer and trying to kidnap a Filipino woman.

In January, the 30-year-old man pretended to be a police officer while driving around Al Rashidiya. He pulled up when he saw the Filipino woman, 24, who works as a supervisor in Dubai, Khaleej Times reported.

The Filipina said she was waiting for a friend when the man pulled up in his car and approached her. She said the man wanted her to ride in his car and tried to force her inside by pulling her right arm.

The Filipina resisted and was able to walk away, but the man followed her when she walked into an alley. The man showed her a driving license and claimed that it was his official ID.

But when the Filipina tried to take a picture of his number plate, the man took her phone and pushed her, which caused scratches on her hand.

At that moment, a resident arrived in the alley and the man fled from the scene.

The Filipina reported the incident and a 30-year-old man was arrested.

The man, who had a Comoros Island passport, later confessed during interrogation that he had met the Filipina on the night of the incident.

The Dubai Court of First Instance will pronounce a ruling on the case on November 15.
