A man has been arrested after a 14-year-old Filipino girl was found dead near her home in Alaminos City, Pangasinan in the Philippines.

On Saturday, Hazel Pedroso left her house to buy medicine for her mother, but failed to return home. The next day, her body was discovered in a grassy field about 300 meters from her house, with a packet of medicine lying beside her, GMA News reported.

Police noted bruising on Pedroso’s head and neck and suspect that she was choked to death. As no underwear was found at the scene, they also speculate that she was sexually assaulted.

Police Senior Superintendent Kirby John Kraft, Laguna police director, said a 43-year-old man had been arrested and will be charged with homicide and rape.
