A 34-year-old domestic worker shielded her employer’s young daughter from being hit by a car in Tai Po in the New Territories on Monday. The maid and the 10-year-old girl were crossing the road near Sam Mun Tsai on Ting Kok Road when the incident took place, the Sing Tao Daily reported.

While they were walking to the island in the middle of the road, a 68-year-old man was driving along Ting Kok Road towards them. He tried to stop when he saw them on the road and the domestic worker immediately grabbed the young girl and held her tight.

The man failed to stop his car in time and hit the maid and the young girl, who suffered injuries to the mouth, nose and legs. Paramedics arrived and sent them to Tai Po Nethersole Hospital for treatment.

The maid was hailed as a hero for shielding the young girl with her body.

The domestic worker told police that the traffic light was green when they crossed the road. An investigation was ongoing to see if the driver jumped a red light. The report did not mention what country the domestic worker came from.

Meanwhile, a 55-year-old Filipina domestic worker died on Monday night after being hit by a car on the same road about 500 meters from the accident on Monday morning.
