A 71-year-old local woman fell to her death while cleaning a window at her home in Wong Tai Sin in Kowloon on Friday. At 9am, the elderly woman dismantled the window grille and cleaned the windows, but lost her balance and fell from her home on the 17th floor of Mei Tak House in Mei Tung Estate.
She landed on the podium on the 5th floor, the Sing Tao Daily reported. A 64-year-old security guard found her with serious head injuries lying on the podium unconscious and called police.
Police and paramedics arrived but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her husband had gone out shopping while she stayed home to do the cleaning. Police did not suspect foul play and classed the case as “person fell from a height.”
The Hong Kong Domestic Workers General Union had advised that windows to be cleaned be fitted with a locked or secured grille to prevent the grille from being opened.
Also, no part of the body should be extended beyond the window ledge except the arms.
