A pair of Vietnamese pickpockets, notorious repeat offenders at a Kuala Lumpur wet market, were caught on CCTV on Sunday morning.
Early on Sunday, a woman in her fifties and another in her seventies were seen working together at Yulek Morning Market, Kuala Lumpur, the Sin Chew Daily (Malaysia) reported.
After they were caught allegedly trying to steal a wallet, the younger suspect was held by witnesses while the older woman managed to escape.
The pair were also linked to a robbery on October 24 when they stole a purse from a housewife’s grocery bag when she was concentrating on her mobile phone in front of a fruit stall.
The security chief of Taman Yulek told reporters that he recognized the pair, who were frequent visitors to the market and were, he alleged, responsible for many thefts going back three years.
The woman was taken to a police station nearby. There, officers were reportedly impressed by the abundance of security footage provided by 48 cameras that captured almost the entire crime scene.
Police are continuing to search for the runaway suspect.
