A 45-year-old gym owner was almost killed on his own birthday and his 43-year-old Indonesian employee was badly wounded when a gunman driving past them fired seven shots at them from close range on Tuesday morning in Selangor, Malaysia.

At about 10:15am on Tuesday, the gym owner and his Indonesian technician were driving along Jalan Bukit Kemuning in Shah Alam in an Audi Q7 on their way to a nearby shop to buy lights, the China Press reported.

A four-wheel drive vehicle with its left window open drew near their car and several rounds from a semi-automatic gun were fired at the two men. The men’s car skidded and stalled by the roadside after the attack.

The gym owner, believed to be the target of the hitman, was injured on the right cheek, while the Indonesian man was shot in the abdomen. They were reportedly in a stable condition and being treated at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Rahimah (HTAR) in Klang.

Shah Alam district police are exploring the motive behind the incident and trying to secure closed-circuit television camera footage of the incident.
