A 48-year-old former domestic worker from the Philippines is facing charges of stealing diamond jewels and overstaying at Hong Kong’s Eastern Magistrates’ Court.

Fedelita Sante was arrested on October 5 at the Immigration Department’s General Investigation Service office at Skyline Tower in Kowloon Bay, sunwebhk.com reported.

She faced court on October 8 – and allegations that she stole a diamond necklace, a diamond pendant, a diamond ring, plus an iPad Air. These items all belonged to Melanie Helene Silvie Viquel but were allegedly taken from her apartment at Sum Way Mansion in Belcher Street in Sai Ying Pun on Hong Kong Island between January 1 and February 4, 2015.

Police did not give an estimate of the total value of the items that were allegedly stolen, or how the offense was committed.

The defendant was also charged with one count of breaching the condition of her stay for failing to leave Hong Kong after her visitor’s visa lapsed on Dec 11, 2014.

The prosecution opposed a request for bail by the defendant, who was listed as having no fixed address.

Magistrate Veronica Heung Shuk-han remanded Sante in custody and adjourned the case until November 5.
