A group of five people were arrested last Wednesday for connections to a robbery in Malaysia, including senior officials.
According to Rompin district’s police chief DSP Azli Mohammed Noor, police arrested a 30-year-old official, his two brothers, a 56-year-old man and his son, 20, on October 24 in Nenasi, Pekan, The Sun Daily reported.
The primary perpetrator – the law enforcement commander’s elder brother – was a 31-year-old teacher and his younger brother, 28, reportedly a junior general assistant at an oil palm agency.
The police chief issued a statement, saying the group was armed when they boarded a Vietnamese fishing boat off the waters of Rompin, posing as law enforcement officers, and took 10,000 ringgit (US$2,393) as well as their catch, which reportedly weighed in at one tonne.
The suspects are now in police custody and will remain so until October 30 when investigations move forward.
