A Filipino woman died after being savagely beaten by her Swedish husband in Kista, Sweden, on Sunday, Sept. 23. Mailyn Conde Sinambong, 28, was killed by her husband Steve Abou Bakr Aalam, 50, a Swedish actor-director, at their home northwest of Stockholm, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said in a statement.

Sinambong succumbed to her injuries and her husband confessed to the crime and is in the custody of Swedish authorities. Sinambong left behind two children aged four and 10.

The Philippine Embassy in Oslo, Norway, will assist in the repatriation of Sinambong’s remains to the Philippines. According to Consul General Ma Elena Algabre, they will assist Sinambong’s aunt, who lives in Norway, in gathering more information on Sinambong’s death from police.

Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano instructed the Office of Migrant Workers Affairs, the embassy in Oslo and the DFA Consular Office in Cebu to extend all possible assistance to Sinambong’s family and ensure that justice is served.
