Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, together with his family, was seen shopping in Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay wearing a black face mask during an unofficial visit on Saturday.
At about 7:30pm, Duterte was in the Uniqlo casual wear shop with his wife Honeylet Avanceñas and daughter Kitty, according to a Facebook post published by columnist Ellen Tordesillas, who cited an unnamed source. They were accompanied by their bodyguards and Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Tesoro Go, Special Assistant to the President.
Tordesillas said she tried to contact Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque for comment but he did not reply.
Duterte’s trip came three days after the 73-year-old president disclosed that he had undergone endoscopy and colonoscopy several weeks ago. He said he had a tissue sample test at Cardinal Santos Medical Center in Manila.
He said if he was diagnosed with stage three colon cancer, he might not push for medical treatment.
On Saturday night, Go posted several pictures on Facebook showing Duterte walking on the street in Hong Kong without a mask.
Duterte came to Hong Kong for a medical check up, HK01.com reported, citing an unnamed source. He is staying in Grand Hyatt Hong Kong in Wan Chai and was due to leave Hong Kong about 6pm on Sunday.
