She was asked what she would say to youngsters 100 years from now, and replied she would tell them to believe in their dreams and be knowledgeable in way that will improve society.

The 1.74 meter tall winner from Quang Nam province wore a crown that was handcrafted from 30 pearls – representing 30 years of the pageant – and 3,260 sapphires – symbolizing Vietnam’s 3,260 kilometer coastline. Vy was also given a cash prize of 500 million dong (US$21,700).

After winning the crown, Vy was shy when asked questions in the post-contest press conference, answering with only one or two sentences, reported. Le Xuan Son, the head of the pageant’s organization board, came to her defense and said she was young and shocked by her victory.

Tran Tieu Vy will represent Vietnam in this year’s Miss World contest on Dec. 8 in Sanya, China.
