A Swedish man in the Philippines was arrested for threatening to release nude photos of his Filipino ex-girlfriend if she did not pay him PHP100,000 (US$1,848).

On September 5, Michael Lagarde was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) during a sting at a mall in Taguig City, Manila Bulletin reported.

The arrest was made after the Filipina filed a complaint to the NBI. The Filipina said she and Lagarde were in a relationship for two years. During this time, Lagarde had taken money from her and charged large sums to her credit cards and ATM account.

She and Lagarde broke up last June after the Filipina discovered that he had multiple convictions for fraud in Sweden and had victimized other women.

Lagarde may be prosecuted for grave coercion and grave threats under Republic Act 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.
