Ten migrant workers who all work for the same company in Dubai collectively won US$1 million at the Dubai Duty Free raffle.

Gurmeet Singh, 38, an Indian who works as a showroom manager for a car dealership, had participated in the Dubai Duty Free raffle for about a year without winning, Khaleej Times reported.

Singh then persuaded nine colleagues, who are Indian, Bangladeshi and Filipino, to buy a ticket for the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire and Finest Surprise draw, on the agreement that they would split the prize evenly if they won.

On Tuesday, it was announced that the ticket Singh and his colleagues held had been drawn as the winner of $1 million.

“I always believe that promotions like this do work. Dubai Duty Free is indeed full of surprises,” Singh said.

In August, a Filipino domestic worker in Dubai won one million dirhams (US$272,294) in a raffle organized by a UAE-based foreign exchange company. The Filipina was the second person from the Philippines to win the annual raffle organised by Al Ansari Exchange.
