A 37-year-old motorcyclist was killed after his motorcycle collided with a truck in Shek O on Hong Kong Island in the early hours on Wednesday.
The man surnamed Ng, the father of a two-year-old girl and a production company owner, was riding with a group of friends in Shek O, Oriental Daily reported.
The accident occurred while Ng was navigating a sharp bend on Shek O Road near Lan Nai Wan Village when he collided with an oncoming truck.
A dashboard camera which captured the accident from behind the truck showed the truck driver, a 37-year-old man surnamed Chan, trying to avoid hitting Ng by swerving off of the road. Despite his actions, Ng’s motorcycle collided violently with the truck.
The motorcyclist following Ng, a 27-year-old friend of his surnamed Suen, came around the bend to find Ng lying in the road. Suen failed to stop in time and hit Ng’s fallen motorcycle before crashing.
Ng, who was unconscious, was rushed to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
This is the second fatal road accident on the Shek O Road in only 11 days.
Suen and Chan suffered minor injuries and have been discharged from hospital.
It was understood that Ng was part of a group of about seven motorcyclists who were riding from Chung Hom Kok in Stanley to Shek O at the time of the accident, Sing Tao Daily reported.
