The Philippine government has warned Filipinos seeking employment overseas to beware of an online job offer from a company in London. In a statement, the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) said that Jersey Oil and Gas Co, an independent oil and gas company operated from Jersey in the Channel Islands, was not hiring any workers and was not included in the POEA’s list of foreign companies that could hire Filipino workers.
The POEA said the Philippine Labor Office in London reported that several Filipino migrant workers received an “official employment letter” from the company, informing them that their job applications had been approved.
According to Labor Attache Reydeluz Conferido, the employment letter the workers received had many grammatical errors and a telephone number different from the numbers on the official website of Jersey Oil and Gas.
“The POEA, at present, has no record of accreditation or job orders in the name of Jersey Oil. Any effort by this company to recruit Filipino workers at present is deemed illegal by our government,” the POEA said.
The website of Jersey Oil and Gas said the company was not hiring any personnel and it did not deal with recruitment agencies.
