A five-foot Indian cobra was captured in a girls’ hostel in Mayurbhanj, Odisha, on Sunday. The Odisha Sun Times reported a girl found the snake lying next to her friend on a bed on Sept. 9.

The startled girl raised the alarm and hostel staff evacuated all the girls from the room. A call was made to the snake helpline and volunteers came to retrieve the cobra.

The snake was eventually set free in a nearby forest. The province of Odisha is no stranger to snake invasions, given its hot climate and coastal location.

In April, a 17-foot king cobra was found in a village in the same district of Mayurbhanj. Forestry officials caught and later released the snake in a nearby forest.
