A 25-year-old Filipino with a local identity was arrested on Thursday and charged with stealing from a restaurant and possession of illegal drugs in Central on Hong Kong Island.
A 31-year-old member of staff called police to report that a masked man had broken in through the back door of the restaurant at 53 Peel Street and stole money from the cash drawer on Monday, the Oriental Daily reported.
The staff only discovered the burglary on Thursday after checking the surveillance camera. They lost HK$4,400 (US$562) in cash. Police patrolling the area stopped and searched a man on the corner of Hollywood Road and Wyndham Street.
They found ten grams of cannabis on him with an estimated market value of HK$2,300.
After questioning, police believe the man was connected with the restaurant burglary. They were making further inquiries to see if the man was involved in more burglaries in the district.
