A 46-year-old woman from the Philippines was arrested on Sunday for an alleged brutal attack on a 24-year-old Indian man in a convenience store in Penang, Malaysia.
The attack happened in a convenience store on Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling in George Town at about 4am on Sept. 9, the Sin Chew Daily (Malaysia) reported.
The woman, a Malaysian resident, had been in a relationship with the man and demanded a break-up fee from him. However, he refused to pay her.
Customers in the store said the woman walked up to the man who was working as a cashier and threw an unknown liquid in his eyes, prompting him to run upstairs to the staff rest room on the second floor.
The woman followed him and hit him on the head with a hammer and cut his face with a knife. Customers tried to stop the woman attacking the man.
Police rushed to the scene and arrested the woman and confiscated her hammer and knife as evidence. The man was sent to a nearby hospital where he was reportedly in a critical condition due to a brain hemorrhage.
The woman was remanded until Sept. 13 under Section 326 of the Malaysian Penal Code, which is voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
