Viewers across the Internet were angered by a video uploaded on social media on Thursday night which showed an Indonesian domestic worker hitting her elderly Singaporean employer with a mobile phone.

The incident allegedly took place on August 8 on Telok Blangah Crescent in Singapore, where the 31-year-old maid was shown trying to silence the elderly woman by hitting her on the head, Lianhe Wanbao (Singapore) reported.

A passing Filipina domestic worker named Jenny was so taken aback by what she saw that she decided to film it so that the victim’s relatives could be informed.

The 55-second-video has already been viewed more than 133,000 times, and been shared over 2,400 times since it was uploaded to the All Singapore Stuff Facebook page by Jenny’s former employer.

It was reported that after it was posted on Facebook, the victim’s 63-year-old daughter, surnamed Toh, soon learned of the matter.

She told Shin Min Daily News that the maid named Asril was hired in December to look after her mother, who suffers from dementia, and who lost her speech after she had a stroke in November last year.

The maid was regarded as a good helper as she had been performing well and exhibiting good care for her mother, Toh said in tears, adding that the family had no idea the maid could be so heartless.

The Singapore police, the Ministry of Manpower and the employment agency were all informed of the case. The maid was taken away by the agency on Saturday morning and is expected to be repatriated back to Indonesia.
