Police are looking for three South Asian men who allegedly attempted to attack a couple with knives in Tuen Mun in the New Territories on Tuesday.

A man surnamed Tang, who is alleged to be a triad member, was driving a seven-seat van with his wife at 1pm when the vehicle was stopped on San Fuk Road and involved in an incident with people from another seven-seat van, Oriental Daily reported.

Three South Asian men armed with knives jumped out from the other vehicle and tried to open Tang’s van. They failed to do that as he had locked his car, but it was damaged.

Tang immediately drove his car to a police base on Tsun Wan Road, about 100 meters away, and called the police.

The three suspects fled when they saw Tang’s car parked in front of the police office.

Tang was unhurt but his wife was sent to hospital as she felt unwell after the attack.

About 15 minutes later, police received a report that a private car was on fire on Yick Yuen Road. After an initial investigation, police believed that the vehicle was connected to the attack on Tang’s van, saying the incident may be related to a conflict connected to the triad.

The anti-triad squad at Tuen Mun police district is following up on the case.
