A 34-year-old Pakistani man who allegedly tried to rape a Vietnamese woman in Sham Shui Po denied the charge against him at the High Court in Hong Kong on Tuesday.
Qasir Jahanger was charged with one count of attempted rape after being arrested in May last year. It was alleged the man tried to rape a Vietnamese neighbor in a subdivided flat on Cheung Sha Wan Road in Sham Shui Po, Kowloon, Sing Pao reported.
The court heard that the defendant, an asylum seeker, lived with a friend in the sub-divided flat. The woman, a 59-year-old from Vietnam – identified in court as X – and her husband lived in another subdivided flat in the apartment. The couple were also asylum seekers.
The court heard that at 9pm on May 10, X’s husband left home and went for a walk while X was wearing pyjamas and lying on a bed. When she heard a knock on her door, she opened it. When she saw the man standing in the doorway, she tried to close the door but failed. The man pushed her on the bed and tried to kiss her and rape her.
X told the court she resisted and the man later masturbated in front of her. X told her husband when he returned and they reported the case to police. The trial continues on Wednesday.
