A Filipino domestic worker who had been reported missing was found dead in a hotel room in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, last week. The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said in a statement that the 52-year-old woman’s body had been found in a hotel room on August 15.

However, the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah only learned of the death on Saturday afternoon after a member of the Filipino community informed them.

Consul General Edgar Badajos said the consulate was coordinating with local authorities to discover the cause of death. The consulate did not disclose the woman’s identity pending notification of the next of kin.

“We are saddened to learn about the passing under still unknown circumstances of one of our compatriots,” Badajos said. According to the Consulate, the woman was single and first arrived in Saudi Arabia to work as a domestic worker in 2007.

“Authorities are expected to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of her death,” the DFA said.
