An Australian man was sentenced to seven and a half years in jail on August 2 for planning to travel to the Philippines and pay to have sex with a seven-year-old girl there.

Douglas Thomas Purves, 40, paid a woman in the Philippines to find girls aged six to 12 to strip live on webcam and to send him videos of the girls exposing their private parts, the Philippine Lifestyle News reported.

Purves also asked the woman for prices to have sex with minors. The prices given were PHP60,000 (US$1,130) for a seven-year-old girl, PHP30,000 for a nine-year-old and PHP20,000 for a 12-year-old. He planned to visit the Philippines to have sex with a child.

On August 2 at the District Court of New South Wales, Purves pleaded guilty to four charges of causing a child under 16 to engage in sexual activity outside Australia and five counts of using a carriage service to solicit child pornography.

He was sentenced to a maximum seven and a half years in prison with a non-parole period expiring in February 2023.
