A man described as a “person of interest” has been arrested over the death of a Filipino maid, whose body was found in a hotel room in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, last week.

The 52-year-old Filipino domestic worker, who was reported missing, was found dead in a hotel room in Jeddah on August 15. However, the Philippine Consulate General in Jeddah only learned of the death three days later, the Manila Bulletin reported.

According to the consulate, the woman was single and first arrived in Saudi Arabia to work as a domestic worker in 2007.

On Wednesday, Consul General Edgar Badajos said Saudi authorities had arrested a man suspected to have been involved in the woman’s death. Authorities said the man was the last person seen with the Filipina before she was reported missing and later found dead.

Badajos said authorities were expected to give an update on their investigation and the autopsy results next week after the Eid al-Adha holiday.
