A 35-year-old illegal immigrant from mainland China was arrested for alleged robbery and wounding in Macau on Sunday.

After a woman withdrew 1,100 Macau patacas (US$136) cash from a bank ATM on Avenida de Almeida Ribeiro, the suspect, surnamed Ng, allegedly grabbed for her wallet, Jornal Va Kio reported.

Although the woman resisted, her attacker succeeded in taking the wallet. He then pushed her to the ground and fled.

Meanwhile, a passing Nepalese man, who was reportedly a security guard, ran after the robber and tried to subdue him.

After the two men began to tussle on the street the suspect pulled out a clasp knife and injured the Nepalese man’s right hand and abdomen.

The suspect then ran away. Police arrived and sent the injured man to hospital for medical treatment.

Officers examined surveillance camera footage in the district and arrested the suspect in a park in Praça de Ferreira do Amaral two hours later.

Under questioning, the suspect admitted to the police that he entered Macau illegally on Saturday night, and that after he lost all his money in a casino, he sought targets to rob.
