An employer is being investigated by Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower after a 41-year-old Indonesian maid and her 30-year-old Filipino co-worker were allegedly forced to sleep outdoors and were mistreated.
The Ministry of Manpower quickly moved the two women to a place where they could get proper meals and accommodation.
The Indonesian maid had alerted online media outlet Stomp News on August 14 and also the Shin Min Daily News about the mistreatment. She alleged that she started working for the employer in June this year, while her Filipino colleague had worked for the family for three years.
Since July 31, the two maids had been sleeping on the same bed in the open-air backyard, which was crowded with many items at their employer’s home in Sian Tian Avenue in Bukit Timah. The family had recently moved into the neighborhood.
They were not allowed to sleep inside the unit because their rooms were allegedly not yet ready. The Indonesian said both women had to work every daily from 6am until 11pm or 12am, at least 18 hours. They had no proper afternoon breaks as they had to take care of their employer’s 14-year-old son.
During their day off on Sundays, the women were only allowed to leave home after working until 1pm, but had to be back by 8pm.
One day the Indonesian woman was ordered to pack more than 3,000 bottles of wine by herself after finishing her daily chores. She finished at 2am the next day.
Their employer often scolded them and called them idiots, the maid added. The women were given a food allowance of only S$20 per week, so they could only afford instant noodles and canned tuna.
To make matters worse, the Filipino fell from a staircase and injured her upper arm, but the employer refused to send her to get medical attention, saying her injury would heal naturally.
Ministry of Manpower officers visited the home on August 15 and sent the two maids into care, while investigations of mistreatment and other offenses are on-going.
I don’t understand why such a rich employer who can afford to employ 2 helpers treat their helpers like that..
Addressing this to the employer:
1: You employed them to help you do the household chores, therefore treat them as a human being not animals…
2: Put it in your mind as employers that they work long hours therefore they need adequate sleep and food to eat,not enough food no strength to move about..
3:1 Day off per week is a must!! By Law! 1-8 pm off Is not a whole day off but half day off…
These employers seemed to be stubborn, playing with the law ….You employers deserve to be treated back like the way you treated your helpers so you know how it feels to be treated like a SLAVE…YOU EMPLOYERS SHOULD BE JAILED, and to be fed with cup noodles breakfast lunch and dinner and Ask to sleep outside also so you feel…. IDIOTS!
But how come a filipina maid still work in 3yrs if they are mistreated?..i never thought still have filipina like this..filipina can talk and understand she have off every sunday why she never report and tolerate this kind of employer?..something wrong with u girl..pls dont allow them to bully u..????

Then Singapore law has an action already. Me b4 2010 I can’t hold my salary and no offday. I’m going out sending kids with bus card. I want to eat something but I dont have any single cent. Maybe her helper same till now what she did for me… We are in kings road…Thanks God they release me coz I told them I want to have a holiday and buy my own air ticket. When we are in the airport they said I can’t take my oec so no need to go back. I’m sad and happy coz they give back my 1 way ticket. Now I’m so lucky coz I went to hongkong and hongkong has a law when it comes for domestic helper m, the employer can’t hold our passport and all my documents. Now were here again with my employer from hongkong. I’m so glad that the case of 2 helpers has a justice. Thanks

yes i heard that before.. i think that was 2 or 3 years ago my god until now? my employer’s mother before stays there ( neighbors) i always go to that place thats why i know. so sad hope they can do something to help them get out from that imferno !!
