A 28-year-old Filipina domestic worker in Bishan, Singapore, who survived a fall from a four-story apartment in early August in an alleged suicide attempt, may be fired by her employer.
She is now waiting to return to the Philippines for further treatment to her injuries.
The alleged suicide attempt happened at about 9am on August 5 at Block 153 on Bishan Street 13. The maid, only known as Rachel, was found lying at the foot of the building, looking weak and in extreme pain with both hands shaking, the Shin Min Daily News reported.
A 70-year-old retired resident who saw he lying on the ground called for assistance. Paramedics arrived and sent her to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, where she was found to have fractured her right leg and sustained bruises to her arms and neck.
Police investigations are ongoing.
The woman, who is now in a stable condition, told a newspaper reporter on Thursday that she was lucky to be alive, but stressed she did not recall what had happened. The reasons for her fall were not given.
It was rumored that the maid’s employer, who she had worked for in the past year, might terminate her contract because of the incident.
Meanwhile, the Philippine embassy in Singapore had been notified of the incident and the maid may be sent back home for further medical treatment.
