A 32-year-old Filipino maid tried to commit suicide at her employer’s villa in Sheung Shui in the New Territories on Wednesday by hanging herself in her room.

However, her employer found her and called police and the maid was revived after being taken to hospital. At 8am, when her 39-year-old employer woke, he could not find the maid in his villa at The Green on 338 Fan Kam Road, news website HK01.com reported.

He went to the maid’s room and knocked on the door but had no response. When he opened her door, he found the maid had hung herself with a wire and he immediately got her down and called police.

Officers and paramedics sent the woman to hospital where she was revived. The wire as well as a bottle of pesticide were found in the room, but no suicide note.

Police said they found nothing suspicious and were investigating the reason for her attempted suicide. The Samaritans run a 24-hour multilingual suicide prevention hotline on +852 2896 0000 or emails can be sent to jo@samaritans.org.hk.
