The Erez border crossing between Israel and the Gaza Strip, which was closed a week ago due to clashes, will be reopened on Monday, according to Israeli officials.
In a statement, Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said the decision to reopen Erez was made “given the calm along the border,” AFP reported.
Israel closed the crossing on August 19 in reaction to what Lieberman then described as “violent incidents,” strengthening its blockade of the enclave controlled by the Islamist movement Hamas.
The Erez crossing is the only place where people can cross between Israel and Gaza, which has been under an Israeli blockade for a decade. There is a crossing with Egypt, but it has been largely closed for years.
