At least 82 people were killed and hundreds more injured when a major earthquake rocked the Indonesian holiday island of Lombok on Sunday, according to officials.

The powerful quake, which damaged homes and triggeed a panic, was also felt on the neighbouring island of Bali, one of the Southeast Asian archipelago’s most popular tourism areas, AFP reported.

The seven-magnitude tremor struck just 10 kilometers underground, according to the US Geological Survey. This was followed by secondary quakes and more than 20 aftershocks.

“Everyone immediately ran out of their homes, everyone is panicking,” a Lombok resident named Iman told AFP.
