A two-meter-long venomous king cobra was spotted on Ma On Shan Promenade in the New Territories on Wednesday morning.
A netizen named Hanson Ho posted a photo of the snake on a Facebook page named “Ma On Shan’s friends”, saying he spotted the wild animal on a sidewalk at Ma On Shan Promenade near Villa Oceania on Wednesday, news website HK01.com reported.
The snake slithered away into a drain soon after he found it.
Other netizens joined in the conversation, saying they recently saw snakes near the Vista Paradiso housing block and the Chung On Estate.
Snake expert Chow Ka-ling said that the king cobra is a highly-venomous snake that snake experts have to treat with extra care when they need to catch one.
Chow believed that the snake may have been washed down from nearby hills by recent heavy rainfalls.
In order to avoid being bitten, she advised members of the public never to attempt to touch or catch such a snake. Instead, they should call the police, who will bring in a snake expert to deal with it.
The king cobra is among the 14 venomous native land snake species in Hong Kong and is listed as endangered under the city’s animals and plants protection law.
Oh my goodness….so scary!
Please be alert Ma On Shan residents. Take Care. God Bless
If you don’t know how to drink alcohol please do not drink too much and harm the innocent civilian. By the way 16 years old kid was illegal to drink alcohol anyway.
