A Filipino domestic worker in Dammam, Saudi Arabia is pleading for help after her employer doused her with scalding hot water.
Gealyn Tumalip-Gavanes, 24, started work in Dammam two months ago and was allegedly repeatedly abused by her employer. Tumalip-Gavanes contacted her employment agency about the abuse, GMA News reported.
However, upon discovering that the maid had contacted the agency, her employer reportedly became enraged and threw boiling water at Tumalip-Gavanes, who suffered severe burns to her back.
The domestic worker’s family in the Philippines is pleading for help to rescue her and have her sent home. Tumalip-Gavanes is now receiving treatment at a hospital and is under the care of the Overseas Welfare Workers Administration.
This is not the first instance of a domestic worker being doused with boiling water. In 2014, Pahima Alagasi suffered second-degree burns after her employer poured boiling water on her back for accidentally dropping the lid of a thermos while preparing coffee.
