A mailman was greeted by a 2.4-meter python wrapped around a mailbox when he was delivering letters on August 17 in Overland Park, Kansas.

The shocked mailman called authorities, according to a tweet on the Overland Park Police’s Twitter account. “The poor resident did not receive their mail today (obviously),” the police wrote.

John Lacy, a spokesman for the Overland Park Police, said it was likely the snake escaped from a home nearby and speculated the owner would report the snake missing, The Kansas City Star reported.
It took three officers to contain the python, said Lacy.

Unlike cobras, pythons are not venomous. These reptiles hunt their prey by crushing it with their coiling body. Very rarely do pythons kill humans.
