A three-feet cobra was found inside a flagpole on Independence Day in India as the nation prepared to fly the national flag and celebrate its freedom from Britain.

The reptile was found in a flagpole in Banki in Cuttack district in the state of Odisha on August 15, Independence Day. Residents contacted the snake helpline for assistance, The Times of India reported.

Initially, the snake catchers poured phenyl, a disinfectant, into the flagpole, but the snake did not move. A thin pipe was then inserted into one end of the flagpole and the cobra was pushed out the other end.

The cobra, a highly-venomous reptile, was put into a bag and released in the countryside.
