By the end of 2017, the existing talent pool of China’s integrated circuit industry reached 400,000. Based on the rapid development of the sector, that represents a great scarcity of talent, The Paper reported.
According to the industry white paper released by China Electronics Information Industry Development Academy and the Software and Integrated Circuit Promotion Center under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the talent demand for the country’s IC sector will be about 720,000 by 2020.
This means there is an emerging talent gap of 320,000, with an average annual talent demand is about 100,000.
However, less than 30,000 of the fresh graduates from this area will enter the industry every year. At present, solely relying on colleges and universities cannot meet the talent demand of the IC industry.
The white paper suggests that in order to cope with the scarcity of talent, China should vigorously develop vocational training and carry out continuing education, as well as expand the introduction of high-level overseas talent.
