Firemen have rescued a woman and her domestic worker who became trapped in a village house in Po Fu Lam on Hong Kong Island after a tree fell on it on Saturday.

five-meter tree was uprooted and fell on three village homes in Po Fu Lam Village during strong monsoon wind and heavy rain at about 3pm, Oriental Daily reported.

A 56-year-old woman surnamed Kwong and her domestic worker were trapped in one of the houses while the woman’s brother, 54, managed to escape.

Firemen arrived and got the two women safely out of the house. They were unhurt.

A 58-year-old local man surnamed Chu was able to escape when the tree hit another house.

Firemen searched the third house but found no one was there.

Meanwhile, a 52-year-old woman was hit by a marquee that fell from a building rooftop in Kowloon’ Cheung Sha Wan at 11am.

The victim was hit by the flying tent, measuring three meters by four meters, on the legs near the D2 Place shopping center on Cheung Yee Street.

The marquee was thought to belong to a restaurant on the 11th floor of the shopping center.
