Filipino migrant workers can now rate recruitment agencies through a new web platform set up by the International Labour Organization.

The Migrant Recruitment Advisor, which was launched on Thursday, allows migrant workers to write reviews and share their experiences with recruitment agencies, ABS-CBN News reported.

According to Khalid Hassan, director of the International Labor Organization (ILO) Country Office for the Philippines, the web platform aims to help aspiring migrant workers make an informed decision when selecting a recruitment agency to organize their employment.

“Migration should be a choice. The ILO supports countries like the Philippines in protecting the welfare of migrant workers through fair recruitment and rights-based migration,” Hassan said.

The website is available in English, Filipino, Bahasa Indonesia and Nepali, and lists thousands of recruitment agencies in the Philippines, Nepal, Indonesia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.

Sharan Burrow, general secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation, said the new platform will enable workers to choose legitimate recruitment agencies and avoid falling into the hands of illegal recruiters.

“It is time to put power back into the workers’ hands to rate recruitment agencies and show whether their promises of jobs and wages are delivered,” Burrow said.
