A Filipino domestic worker was sentenced to three months in jail and fined 100,000 dirhams (US$27,200) for using her apartment as a gambling den in Dubai.

On May 12 last year, police raided the 46-year-old Filipino’s apartment in Al Satwa and arrested five people. According to police, the Filipino had sublet her apartment to five accomplices who used the place for gambling, Khaleej Times reported.

The woman charged the five accomplices 100 dirhams per day. One of them claimed it was the Filipino who was running the business.

Police seized cash and gambling paraphernalia during the raid.

At the Dubai Court of First Instance, the Filipino woman initially denied the charge but admitted during the investigation that she had allowed the five accomplices to conduct gambling activities in her apartment.

The court sentenced her to three months in jail and ordered her to pay a fine of 100,000 dirhams. She will be deported after completing her jail term.
