Two Filipino men were jailed for 22 and 24 months after pleading guilty in the District Court on Hong Kong Island’s Wan Chai on July 12 to using a stolen credit card.

The men used the stolen credit card to buy laptops and a guitar. The two men – a 49-year-old waiter Manuel Roldan and 50-year-old musician Edward Reyes – were both Hong Kong residents, sunwebhk.com reported.

The court heard that Roldan stole a Bank of China credit card on March 1 last year. He then went to a shop in 298 Computer Zone in Wanchai and used the card to buy a laptop computer for HK$1,956 (US$249).

Roldan was later joined by Reyes, and together they used the card to buy a second laptop worth HK$3,750 and a third laptop for HK$3,330 in the Wanchai Computer Centre.

Afterwards, they went to a Tom Lee Music shop in Wanchai and bought a bass guitar and an amplifier worth HK$9,450. They were arrested after the card issuer alerted the cardholder about the series of purchases.

Roldan was charged with one count of theft and four counts of obtaining property by deception and was given a 24-month jail term, while Reyes was sentenced to 22 months for three counts of obtaining property by deception.
