A Filipino woman who arrived in Manila from Hawaii was found to be carrying 416 bullet casings for a .38 caliber gun when she was checked at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2 on Monday.

The woman, who was on her way to Laoag in Northern Luzon, was detained by officers from the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) after they found bullet casings in her luggage, ABS-CBN News reported.

The bullet casings were found in a resealable plastic bag in one of her bags during an X-ray. She said her brother-in-law asked her to carry a box home and she was assured the box only contained clothes.

After a manual inspection, the MIAA confiscated the bullet casings – the shells without explosives or the actual bullet – and allowed the woman to board her connecting flight to Laoag.

Ed Monreal, the general manager of MIAA, said passengers should check their bags and make sure items they were asked to carry were not prohibited.
