A 49-year-old married man was jailed for 11 months by a Singapore court on Friday after pleading guilty to molesting a 24-year-old Indonesian maid.

The offenses happened four times in the first 10 days of her employment late last year, the court heard.

Francis Lim Boon Liang pleaded guilty to four counts of indecent assault between November 24 and December 3, 2016, in an apartment on Fernvale Lane, the Shin Min Daily News reported.

The court heard the Indonesian maid was assaulted shortly after she started work on November 24. She did not report the assaults immediately because she did not want to cause problems for the couple employing her and their family.

However, the assaults became more frequent and the maid, who initially refused his advances, felt intimidated and complied. She told the court she was left angry, felt helpless and embarrassed about the incident. After that the male employer continued to molest her on three more occasions.

The defense filed a leniency plea, claiming Lim was emotionally distraught after losing his father in February and his elder brother on June 25, both of whom died of illnesses.

The judge criticized Lim for the “grossly intrusive” acts and his greed for his own sexual gratification and preying on and exploiting the vulnerable. Given that he pleaded guilty, which spared the victim the trauma of a trial, Lim was sentenced to 11 months in jail.
