An Emirati vlogger has come out in defense of Filipino domestic workers after a Kuwaiti celebrity said they should not be given a weekly day off.

Khalid Al Ameri, a columnist and social commentator based in Abu Dhabi, released a video on Facebook in response to Kuwaiti social-media celebrity Sondos Al Qattan’s remarks on new laws pertaining to the hiring of Filipino domestic workers, GMA News reported.

Al Ameri first responded to Al Qattan’s rant on giving domestic workers a day off per week. He turned the tables on Al Qattan and asked her how would she feel if she worked for someone who did not give her a day off.

“Almost every job in the world deserve a day of rest, a day to go out, a day to enjoy life. We are not robots,” Al Ameri said.

The vlogger then expressed outrage at Al Qattan’s remarks on allowing domestic workers to keep their passports. She had said that if they could keep their passports, they could run away at any time.

“Believe me, there’s a reason they keep running away from you. Maybe you are that reason,” he said.

Toward the end of the video, Al Ameri expressed his gratitude to domestic workers for their contributions to his country through their labor.

“On behalf of my country, my family, I want to thank every single domestic worker in this part of the world for helping us and for being part of our families,” he said.
