An 18-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of raping an Indonesian student in front of her home in Rotterdam in the Netherlands last weekend.

On Saturday morning, the young woman was headed to her home on Herman Bavinckstraat when a man hit her with a chain as she was locking her bike. The man strangled her with the chain and raped her, NL Times reported.

The victim suffered serious injuries and was sent to a hospital, where she required surgery.

Rotterdam police spoke to about 20 witnesses and analyzed security video to identify the assailant. They described the assailant as a dark-skinned man wearing a hooded jacket who rode a black bicycle, The Jakarta Post reported.

On Tuesday evening, police arrested an 18-year-old suspect for questioning. They did not disclose the identity of the suspect and were limiting information on the case.
