Three members of the same family were found dead in an apartment in Tuen Mun in the New Territories on Monday, which police say was a murder-suicide case.

A 60-year-old man surnamed Pang was found with a chest injury, while his 56-year-old wife had injuries to her chest, waist and leg in an apartment in Block 4 of Sun Tuen Mun Center, Ta Kung Pao reported. The couple were pronounced dead at the scene.

Their 23-year-old daughter was also found dead at the scene. Police said she had covered her head with a plastic bag which was connected to a helium gas canister.

A knife found inside the unit was taken by police. It was suspected to be the weapon used to kill the woman’s parents.

Initial police inquiries revealed that the 23-year-old woman committed suicide after attacking her parents inside the unit. They added that a suicide note was found saying she had been suffering from eczema.

A 36-year-old man said to be a relative of the family called the police at 3pm on Monday when he visited the family but found the door locked.

The male relative feared for the safety of the family, as they had not joined a Father’s Day gathering on Sunday, Apple Daily reported.

Post-mortem examinations will be conducted later to ascertain the exact causes of the three deaths.
