A video on social media showing a taxi driver being beaten up by four men in front of a hotel in Kowloon’s Tsim Sha Tsui on Saturday has gone viral.
The video, taken on a dashboard camera, was uploaded to social media and showed a taxi driver being punched eight times by a gang of four in 10 seconds in front of a hotel entrance on Canton Road at 11pm, the Oriental Daily reported.
The red taxi stopped in front of the hotel and it was suspected that the driver only wanted tourists as passengers. Two men approached the taxi and had an argument with the driver. The driver was then pushed inside the vehicle.
Two more men belonging to the same group then approached. The taxi driver got out of the car and argued with them before they started punching each other on the street.
A passer-by then tried to stop the fight. The video clip then ended without showing how the confrontation finished.
Viewers said the location was a black spot where taxi drivers liked to pick up tourists. Triads tried to control the area for their own taxi business.
Police said they did not receive any reports about the incident.
To Sun-tong, an officer of the Motor Transport Workers General Union, said they had received a number of reports that taxi drivers were attacked at the location. The union urged the government to take enforcement action, the Apple Daily reported.
