A 62-year-old American man has been sentenced to six years jail by a court in the US for buying sex off an underage Filipino girl.
James Marvin Reed was working in the Philippines in 2007 as a contractor for the United States Department of Defense. From September to December 2007, Reed repeatedly had sex with a Filipino girl who was 14 years old at the time, Philippine Lifestyle News reported.
Reed reportedly paid the girl 2,000 Philippine pesos (US$38) on her first visit to his apartment in Cebu City and took nude photographs of her before having sex.
The girl visited Reed at least 10 times and had sex with him during each visit. Reed paid her 1,000 pesos after her subsequent visits. Reed also got the girl pregnant and she gave birth in 2008. A DNA test allegedly confirmed Reed as the girl’s father.
Reed was arrested by Philippine authorities in 2016 and deported to the US for prosecution. On April 19, he pleaded guilty in the District Court in Minnesota to one count of engaging in illicit sexual conduct in a foreign place.
On June 7, Reed was sentenced to six years in jail, followed by 15 years of supervised release. He was ordered to pay $6,000 in restitution to the victim as well.
