A 67-year-old Hong Kong man jumped to his death after attacking his 40-year-old wife with corrosive fluid in Shatin, New Territories, on Thursday.

That evening, the couple had a fight in their apartment at Hok Sam House in Lung Hang Estate over a relationship problem, Headline Daily reported.

The man suspected that his wife, a mainland Chinese woman, was having an affair. He angrily took a bottle of corrosive fluid from the kitchen and poured it over his wife’s head.

Injured by the attack, she ran out of the apartment to the lobby and asked for help from the security guards. Passers-by called the police.

When the woman ran back upstairs, she found her husband lying severely injured on the podium. Paramedics sent him to Prince of Wales Hospital, but he was pronounced dead later.

The woman was sent to the same hospital, where she was listed in serious condition.

This was not the first time this man had used corrosive fluid in an attack. Eight years ago, he did the same to his ex-wife and was jailed for manslaughter. He was released in 2015, Apple Daily reported.

This is the second case in five days of a similar nature.

On Sunday, a man attacked his wife, who worked in a restaurant in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, with drain cleaner, seriously injuring the victim, while five people in the restaurant suffered minor injuries.
