A 49-year-old Australian man was arrested for allegedly assaulting policemen and trying to snatch a police officer’s gun during a domestic dispute that turned violent on Lamma Island on Saturday.

At 5pm on Saturday the Australian man, who was allegedly drunk, had been having an argument with his 43-year-old wife on the rooftop of a building on Yung Shun Wan Back Street, the Oriental Daily reported.

Police were called and when they arrived found the man waving a 15-inch long knife and threatening his wife. Five officers tried to subdue the man and during the scuffle he is alleged to have tried to take a gun from one of the officers, but failed.

During the attempt to subdue the man, the Australian suffered an injury to an ear, while the five officers had injuries to their hands, face and chest. They were all sent to hospital for medical treatment.

The man was later transferred to the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital and was arrested for alleged assault of a police officer, possession of a weapon and assault with intent to rob, the Apple Daily reported.
